瑞典 is a minor power located in Scandinavia. It borders 挪威 to the west and north, 芬兰 to the east and is very close to 丹麦 to the southwest. It is bounded by the Baltic Sea to the south and southeast. While rich in useful resources, it remains sharply constrained by its pursuit of neutrality, leaving it mostly free to watch the coming storm.

Geography

Sweden is located in northern Europe on the Scandinavian peninsular. It mostly consists of flat, arable land in the far south, hills, and mountains northwest and forest to the northeast. Much of the Swedish land is covered in dense forest, and many large rivers run through the land from the Scandinavian mountains. The Scandinavian Mountains dominate the western side of Sweden and makes up the natural border between Sweden and the neighboring country 挪威. In the far north runs the great river of Torne älv, which is makes up the natural border between Sweden and 芬兰. Sweden also borders 丹麦 in the south, with a small oversea connection between Zealand and Skåne.

Swedens capital Stockholm lies to the east and is the only urban area in the state.

Historical Background

Despite being aligned with other Democratic nations ideologically, historically Sweden was able to preserve its neutrality during the war. Sweden stayed neutral throughout World War I and II, siding neither with the Axis nor the Allies. But Sweden did let trains carrying German soldiers and supplies go through the country to both 芬兰 and 挪威 (the so-called Permittenttrafik) to avoid getting into a war with the Germans. Sweden was also the biggest supplier of iron ore to 德意志国 which is often discussed as a potential reason for its successful neutrality, with the metal provided accounting for about 58% of German supplies and 31% of British. The Swedish government allowed British access to its territory to ensure the delivery of the bearings through the German naval blockade. Sweden managed to de-crypt the German Geheimfernschreiber(considered more complicated than the famous enigma machine) in only two weeks on June 1940 and over the course of the war Sweden spied on German intelligence. In some rare cases, Sweden actively supplied information to the allies about this. The most famous such act was when Sweden provided information to the United Kingdom about the upcoming Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union. The British submitted the information further to Stalin who ignored it, with devastating results. Being a neutral country, tens of thousands of Jewish refugees fled to Sweden to escape the Nazi Holocaust.

Interestingly, with Man the Guns, Sweden starts with the 1936 Cruiser hull available in it's production tab even though it does not have it researched, and as such, lacks the 1936 cruiser engine.

Politics

Sweden is walking a fine line, remaining clear of Democratic entanglements on the European continent while safeguarding its own strict neutrality. Sweden's government faces elections every 4 years.

With the Waking the Tiger expansion, Sweden has two special Decisions to form either the 北欧联盟 - which is shared with the other nations that make up the Council - or to restore the old Kalmar Union and create 斯堪的纳维亚 once Norway and Denmark are under Swedish control, possibly as a stepping stone to the Council later on.

In 1936, Sweden starts with 12 total divisions, with an unusual set of Division Templates. 6 Divisions are classified as "militia" Infantry, consisting of 2 infantry battalions and 2 cavalry battalions. Joining these are 5 Regular divisions consisting of 6 infantry battalions backed up by support artillery, engineering and recon companies. Joining these is the lone 3-battalion Cavalry Division along with its recon support company. The navy is spread along the southern coastline, consisting of 7 Destroyers, 9 Heavy Cruisers, 2 Light Cruisers and 10 Submarines.
