历史背景

The United Kingdom acquired Egypt from the Ottoman Empire in 1882, ending 365 years of Ottoman rule in Egypt and due to it housing the Suez Canal (built by a French company in 1859-1869), Egypt became one of the strategically most vital parts of the British Empire. During the First World War, the Ottoman Empire launched an attack across the Sinai peninsula in an attempt to conquer the Suez Canal, but were repulsed.

During 1922, the United Kingdom ended the protectorate status of Egypt and the country became effectively independent under King Fuad, forming the Kingdom of Egypt, but British troops still continued to occupy and control the Suez Canal.

King Fuad died in 1936 and King Farouk took over. Alarmed by the Italian invasion of 埃塞俄比亚, he negotiated the withdrawal of British troops from Egypt, except at the Suez Canal.

After the outbreak of the Second World War, 埃及 remained neutral, severing ties with the Axis Powers. However, when the Italians joined the war, Egypt was invaded by Italian forces, and the British used Egypt as a base of operations to protect the Suez Canal.

After a series of intense battles against the Germans and Italians, including the decisive Battle of El Alamein, the Axis Powers were finally driven out from Egypt in 1942.

埃及 would remain a British protectorate until a coup d'etat in 1952 led to the fall of the monarchy and ended both the Kingdom of Egypt and British military presence in the area. The modern Arab Republic of Egypt was founded in its place.
