Free France acts as the counterweight to the collaborators of 维希法国 and is tag-wise considered to be the original France, while Vichy France uses a dynamic tag. Free France will seek to contest the Vichy regime's authority and eventually usurp it and reassert itself as the legitimate government of France.
Free France, however, starts off at a major disadvantage compared to Vichy France; while they do not have to worry about occupation costs or colonial unrest, Free France starts off with very little territory and resources and is considered to be a government-in-exile, meaning that if all other major powers in the allies capitulate, Free France will capitulate as well and Vichy France will become the legitimate government of France.
After the Fall of 法国 and the Second Armistice of Compeigne, French General Charles de Gaulled rejected the armistice being negotiated by Marshal Philippe Petain and fled to Britain. In London, he broadcast the Appeal of 18 June (Appel du 18 juin) over the BBC, urging the french to resist against the Axis powers of
德意志国 and
意大利 and, by extension, the
维希法国.
While many french colonial territories rejected the appeal and reaffirmed their loyalty to Vichy, a good part of them, namely the French Equatorial Africa, the French Pacific possessions, French Guyana and French India, heeded the appeal and came to form the basis for an overseas french resistance movement led by de Gaulle. Over the course of the war, Free France would continue to gradually build up a military composed of colonial recruits, exiles from Metropolitan France and other anti-vichy rebels and resistance members and, with significant assistance from the British, begun to contest the Vichy regime's rule over french overseas territories. Throughout the war, the Free French navy served as an auxiliary force to the other 联合王国 and the other dominion navies of the

英属印度British Empire while the Free French army engaged the axis powers alongside the British Royal Army in both Africa and elsewhere.
Free France, like Vichy France, is created through an event chain which will start if 法国 is
democratic, allied to the
联合王国, and capitulates when at war with
德意志国. If this happens, France is given the option of collaborating with the Germans (which will create
维希法国 if the Germans approve), continuing the fight regardless (which will allow them to continue on as
自由法国) or proposing a union with Britain (which will create the
联合王国 if both sides approve).
Regardless of choices made, France will be split into both Vichy France and Free France and both sides will begin to contest each other over who is the legitimate successor to France.
自由法国, has a unique national focus tree as part of
La Résistance. Once Free France completes the tree, however, it will switch over to the regular French national focus tree (with the Review Foreign Policy path unlocked), Without the expansion, Free France will continue to use the regular French national focus tree.
Like Vichy France, Free France will inherit all technologies already researched by France.
Free France starts off with the following national spirit.
Unlike Vichy France, which has its government set to fascism, Free France will inherit whatever political party makeup that France had before capitulating.
Since Free France can only be created by having France be allied with the 联合王国 and is a government-in-exile hosted by the UK, it will remain in the Allies.
As for the Free French military, the situation is even more unpredictable than with 维希法国. While Vichy France will usually retain control of at least a portion of the metropolitan, Free France on the other hand may, at best, recieve control of a few colonial units and, at worst, nothing at all, forcing them to rely on colonial conscription and government-in-exile mechanics to build up a functional military. This also means that Free France's military performance will be depedent on how effective the Allies are in the war and how well the Vichy government is able to stop Free France's attempts to contest and take over territory.
Free France will retain whatever laws and ideas France had before capitulating.

When it comes to territory, Free France is a bit unusual. Free France will by default be granted control of French Guyana and the French Pacific and Indian possessions, which grants them some territory to operate from.
Additionally, however, Free France will also gain control over all french-owned and french-occupied territory not awarded to Vichy that is not a core state of the former occupier or any belligerent nation. This means that if France, for example, conquers and occupies Italian Libya (which is not a core state of 意大利 while Libya itself does not exist) and then capitulates, then all of French North Africa will be handed over to Vichy France but Free France will retain control of Libya and even potentially establish its capital in Tripoli.
This means that if France occupies territories not cored by the original owner or any other belligerent before capitulating, Free France can gain additional territory to use for resources and manpower.
