About
Winter Wars aims to create a balanced addition to the game by following the design philosophies of Paradox Interactive. Winter Wars hopes to create scenarios that are plausible and within reason for the country involved, avoiding overpowered focused or paths that seem completely outside the realm of possibility.
Countries
Denmark
Historical Background
During the first world war, Denmark remained neutral, carefully playing Britain and Germany off of one another in order to maintain trade relations with both. Although Denmark ended up making slightly more concessions to Germany than to Britain, they managed to stay out of the conflict. When the Great Depression hit, Denmark was not left unaffected, and the government had to take some drastic actions in order to try and keep its population fed and employed, including by making deals with the socialists and communists. During the interwar years, Denmark had been hit with a strong wave of anti-militarism. Denmark, it was felt, was too weak to ever properly defend itself from a serious threat like Germany, and they could not count on the wary British for protection. This led to the philosophy of Defenceless Neutrality, spearheaded by politician Peter Munch. It claimed that the best way for Denmark to remain neutral was to appear as non-threatening as possible, and to make sure that the favorable trade practices of WWI were continued. After all, who would want to take over a country with no weapons or the capability to make many, especially when they were lucrative trade partners?

Iceland
Historical Background
Iceland has only recently begun to realize its long held dream of home rule, granted in 1904 by the Danish government, Iceland still remains nominally under the Danish crown. However, most Icelandic people wish to break completely from Denmark as nationalism surges into the small Scandinavian country. As a small country, Iceland knows that it cannot significantly alter any conflict that may arise, and as such have taken a stance of strong neutrality, refusing to get involved in any conflicts that may arise. Finally arising to the world scene, Iceland has many decisions to make, namely, how far are they willing to go in order to defend their newfound independence and their commitment to neutrality?

Norway
Historical Background
Despite its long history, Norway has only been independent since 1905 when it became separated from Sweden. Once free, Norway decided upon a parliamentary government with a King, choosing Prince Carl of Denmark, who has chosen for himself the regal name Haakon VII, and whose wholehearted embracement of Norwegian culture has endeared himself to the entire population. During the Great War, Norway remained officially neutral, but their trade policies and diplomatic actions clearly favored the British, earning them the moniker; "The Neutral Ally". However, twenty years and a Great Depression later, and Norway is no longer so inclined towards the British. With war once again looming, Norway will have to decide between once again choosing a side, even unofficially.

Sweden
Historical Background
Sweden remained neutral during the Great War, along with Norway and Denmark. Sweden has adopted a very internal focus as of late, reforming the government, focusing on social welfare, and limiting foreign interactions to trade agreements. As one of the larger suppliers of steel and tungsten in the world, Sweden maintains a sizable military and navy in order to ensure their continued security. As war draws closer to Europe once again, Sweden will need to decide of maintaining their neutrality is truly a viable option, especially with Finland under threat from the Soviet Union. Many call for their defence against the encroaching Soviets, others clamor for a closer alignment to Germany. Sweden lies at a cross-path.

Finland
Historical Background
Finland broke away from the the corpse of the Russian Empire in 1917, only to immediately fall into civil war between the royalist whites and the communist reds. The royalists won and selected a king from Germany's House of Hesse, but the defeat of Germany forced Finland to become a republic instead. With the establishment of the Soviet Union, Finland's foreign policy has been entirely dedicated to protecting its newfound independence. This drive for independence has led to a very nationalistic mindset among its people, which has led to a call for greater Finnish unity. In 1920 the Finnish won the right to keep the Aland Islands, despite their population largely being Swedish speaking, and in 1932 the semi-fascist Lapua group led a failed coup-d'état against the government. Now, with the Soviet Union solving its internal problems, they once again put their eyes upon Finland, especially the Karjala region, which lies directly above Leningrad, and would great defensively to have...
